ACCIONA obtains railway passenger operator permit
ACCIONA has obtained the permit for providing railway passenger transport services in Spain. Currently, there are seven private operators prepared to win a part of Renfe’s market share on the passenger transportation segment (ACS , Comsa, Alsa &Interbus, Veloi Rail and Eco Rail). The tender for the selection of operators to run services for a period of seven years on the Levante network, which includes conventional and high speed routes, is expected before the end of the year.
In the case of Acciona, the group has a railway freight operator licence since 2005 when the sector was liberalised. A similar evolution had ACS and Comsa, which also positioned as rail freight operators first and, in a later stage, obtained the licence to enter in the passenger segment.
