Astra Passenger Coaches and Arad Municipality signed EUR 8.3 million contract for the delivery of six Imperio trams
Romanian rolling stock manufacturer, Astra Passenger Coaches (Astra Vagoane Calatori), and Arad Municipality signed last Friday a contract for the delivery of six Imperio tramways. The value of the contract is approximately EUR 8.3 million.
“Today is extremely important to us. We acquired the best tramway license from Siemens and we now produce under licence the best tramway. Starting from now, we will be able to participate in tenders and to demonstrate that Imperio is a top product. For Arad Municipality we have made a special price offer since it is the city where we produce this tram ” said Valer Blidar, President of Astra Passenger Coaches.
The Imperio tram for Arad city is 27 meters long and can reach a top speed of 70 Km/h. The tram is capable of carrying 208 persons, of which 40 seated. According to Mihai Chepeţan, Technical Director at Astra, the tramway has the lowest power consumption in the world (0.63 kWh per run km) and very low maintenance costs.
The first tram will be deliver in 33 weeks form the date of the contract signing and the remaining five in 44 weeks. Astra has a production capacity of five tramways/month.
Astra Passenger Coaches is also interested in exporting the Imperio tramway in Turkey, Bosnia – Herzegovina, Bulgaria and the Republic of Moldova.
