Bombardier to supply up to 156 low-floor tramways to Wiener Linien

Public transport operator Wiener Linien announced  it has selected Bombardier for a EUR 562m contract to supply up to 156 low-floor tramways.

The 34m-long five-section vehicle, accommodating  up to 211 passengers will be assembled at Bombardier's Centre of Excellence for Trams and Light Rail Vehicles in Vienna. Deliveries will be carried our between 2018 and 2026. The new Flexity trams will gradually replace the obsolete high-floor E2 type tramways. 

"We wanted a vehicle that is modern, comfortable and environmentally-friendly, a good fit for the existing infrastructure and a good cost-performance ratio," stated Wiener Linien Managing Sirector, Günter Steinbauer. 

A contract for maintenance services was also signed, under which maintenance activities will be carried out by Wiener Linien staff, on behalf of and at the risk of  Bombardier.
