Bulgaria will launch on Monday a 34.3 million euro project for the upgrade of the railway section connecting the southern towns of Stamboliyski and Plovdiv, the transport ministry said on Thursday.
The project is part of a wider plan for the rehabilitation of the railway section connecting Septemvri, in the Pazardzhik area, with Plovdiv, the second largest city in Bulgaria, the ministry said in a press release.
Following the upgrade of the Stamboliyski-Plovdiv railway stretch, co-financed by the EU under the operational programme Transport 2007-2013, the speed of trains running on this section is expected to increase to 160 kilometers per hour.
