Sofia metro operator Metropolitan EAD has announced that CAF and Simetro Sofia consortium, formed of Siemens and Polish rolling stock manufacturer Newag, have submitted bids in the tender for the acquisition of 20 metro train sets and monitoring and traffic control systems, part of Line 3 Sofia Metro Extension Project, Phase I.

The project also includes the acquisition of radio-based CBTC, integrated radio communications system, SCADA systems for technical supervision and for power supply management. The supplier should also provide training and assistance during the in the initial phase of operation, equipment, special tooling and test equipment for rolling stock and management systems.
