CFR Marfa cuts over a quarter of its staff

The Romanian railway freight national operator, CFR Marfa announced laying off 2500 of its 8577 employees, as part of the company’s restructuring and reorganisation process. 

According to the Romanian Ministry of Finance, in 2013 CFR Marfa reduced its net loss by approximately 35% to EUR 60 million, from EUR 92 in 2012. The company registered a turnover of EUR 205 million, a 7% decrease compared to the previous year.

The workers made redundant will be entitled to a  severance payment equal to 12 or 24 months of salary, depending  on the accumulated service in the company.
