Chinese companies to build the LRT in Astana
The Akimat of Astana, represented by Astana LRT LLP, signed a Framework Agreement on implementation of New Transport System of Astana, LRT - 1st phase with a Chinese Consortium formed of China Railway International Group Ltd and Beijing State-Owned Assets Management Co., Ltd.
The agreement provides arrangements between the parties within a number of issues about the future joint Light Rail Transport system construction.
"This project is a priority not only for Astana, but for the entire Kazakhstan. The signing of the Framework Agreement will allow starting practical implementation of the project and will allow successfully implementing it in Astana through the joint efforts", commented the Akim of Astana, Adilbek Zhaksybekov.
The 22.4 km long system, partly elevated and partly at grade, connecting Astana International Airport with the new railway station, will include 18 stations and one depot. The line will be served by 19 tramways, with a maximum speed 40 km/h. Passenger traffic is estimated at 83 thousand passengers/day. It also includes a full range of life support and control systems.
