CSR Sifang to establish facility in Argentina
Argentina's interior and transportation minister, Florencio Randazzo signed an agreement authorizing Chinese rolling stock manufacturer CSR Sifang Co Ltd., subsidiary of China Southern Rolling Stock (CSR), to set up a facility and jointly develop projects with state-owned rail operator Trenes Argentinos Operadora Ferroviaria (SOFSE). With this agreement, "we're advancing on a fundamental pillar for the recovery of the rail industry, which is the modernization of our country's plants and workshops," the minister's press statement informed.
CSR Sifang will provide railways maintenance tasks and in the future could manufacture railway equipment for Buenos Aires Metropolitan area as well as long distance trains.
Last year, the Ministry of the Interior and Transport of Argentina has awarded CSR Sifang a contract for the supply of 55 train sets, to renew obsolete trains on the Mitre and Sarmiento suburban lines in Buenos Aires.
