EIB lends EUR 180 million to ADIF Alta Velocidad

The European Investment Bank (EIB) has granted a EUR 180 million loan to ADIF Alta Velocidad ​​to finance the installation of signalling, telecommunications and safety equipment, as well as the introduction of ERTMS on 810 km of lines, during 2014 - 2018. The loan agreement was signed on the 26th of June in the presence of Spanish Development Minister Ana Pastor, EIB Vice-President Román Escolano and ADIF Alta Velocidad President Gonzalo Ferre.

The loan provides for a repayment period of 20 years and a grace period of five years. The first tranche amounts to EUR 100 million.

The installation of control-command and signalling subsystems, especially of the ERTMS, will be carried out on the following lines:

  • Valladolid-Venta de Baños-Burgos.
  • Vigo-A Coruña
  • Sevilla-Cádiz.
  • various lines of Madrid suburban railway network.
  • various lines of Barcelona suburban railway network.
