First meeting of the Railway Baltic Council on cross-border cooperation

During the first meeting of the Railway Baltic Council, representatives of Russian (Kaliningrad Railways and October Railways), Belorussian, Estonian, Finnish and Latvian Railways signed a signed a memorandum and an agreement on cross-border cooperation. Lithuanian Railways preferred the observer status. The council work will focus on expanding cooperation in the field of cross-border transport in order to improve railway's competitiveness in the transport market. 

Among the main tasks of the Council will be the organization of effective cooperation in implementing solutions for rail transport in the Baltic region, the development and implementation of new international transport and logistics solutions,the harmonization of information systems and electronic documents on cross-border routes, joint projects in the field of international freight and passenger traffic. In addition, the organisation will identify areas of cooperation in the field of technology and engineering solutions.
