First Stadler Flirt EMU for Serbian Railways to be delivered at the end of September
The production of new Stadler Flirt EMUs is progressing according to the plan, informed Serbian Railways. The construction of first unit is almost ready and it will be delivered to the Serbian operator at the end of September, as stipulated in the contract. The second set will arrive 2,5 months later. That time is necessary to complete testing of the first set on Serbian lines and to obtain the permit of Directorate for Railways for its operation in traffic. After that, new trains will be delivered each 15 days. By the 31st of August 2015, all 21 units are expected to be delivered.
The four-car Flirt EMUs will be gradually replace Serbian Railways’ obsolete rolling stock operating on the regional electrified lines.
The trains have an electric drive for a voltage of 25 kV, 50 Hz. The maximum speed of the modern trains is 160 km/h, and they can be used for three-way traction. The carriage areas can all be accessed without steps and have 234 seats, including 14 tip-up seats and 12 seats in 1st class.
The procurement contract for the 21 Flirt EMUs was signed last year in March and its value was EUR 99 million. EBRD has provided funding for the order.
