Freightliner Poland signed a manufacture and supply agreement with Newag Gliwice and ING Bank Śląski S.A. (ING Lease Polska) for five Dragon E6DCF-DP electric locomotives, estimated at EUR 17.5 million. Freightliner Poland entered into a contingent lease agreement with ING Lease Polska for the rolling stock.

According to Newag, the single-system DRAGON is the first traction vehicle of the six axle locomotives family, specially tailored for the Polish market. The locomotive's drive is made up of asynchronous traction motors driven by IGTB-based traction inverters. The locomotive has a modular construction which allows for tailoring technical parameters to individual clients’ needs e.g., increasing the maximum tractive effort to 450 kN (MAX LOAD option), adapting the locomotive to 25kV Ac voltage or installing an additional Diesel engine (DUAL POWER option).

The first three units will be delivered to Freightliner PL at the end of May 2016 and the remaining two by the end of July 2016. Newag will provide provide two-year maintenance services.
