Hungarian state acquires majority ownership in Bombardier Transportation MÁV Hungary Kft

The Hungarian National Asset Management Company (MNV), on behalf of the Hungarian state, has signed an agreement to purchase the 64.9% stake in Bombardier Transportation MÁV Hungary Kft., a joint venture of Bombardier Transportation, the Hungarian State Railways MÁV (25%) and the employees (10%).   The acquisition is considered as national strategic, aiming to save jobs and to contribute to the development of the local rolling stock industry.

The company specialises in the manufacturing, retrofit, overhauling and maintenance of passenger rail vehicles. Its main customers include MÁV, Győr-Sopron-Ebenfurt Railway Company (GySEV) etc. As well, the company targets contracts for modernising Budapest metro cars and tramways.

Bombardier Transportation MÁV Hungary Kft employs 370 people.
