Hungary: Modernisation works for Gyoma-Bekescsaba railway section completed

The modernisation works for Gyoma-Bekescsaba railway section and three train stations along the route (Csardaszallas, Mezobereny and Murony) were completed. The 32.2 km- long railway line, part of trans-European Orient/East Med and Rhine-Danube corridors, connects the countries of Western Europe and south-eastern regions of Europe, Romanian, Bulgarian and Greek ports.

Rehabilitation of Budapest-Lőkösháza railway line III/1 Phase 1, Gyoma-Bekescsaba section project allows for the introduction of trains running at a maximum speed of 160 km/h. Journey time will be reduced by 6-10 minutes. During phase two of the upgrading and rehabilitation of  Budapest-Lőkösháza railway line, to be carried out in the 2014-2020 programming periodERTMS – ETCCS Level 2, including GSM-R, will be installed. 

The HUF 39 bn (EUR 123 million) modernisation works (track construction works, signalling works, works for electricity power lines) were carried out by BÉKÉS-2012 Konzorcium,  formed of Swietelsky Vasúttechnika, Kőzgép and Strabag Általános Építő. 85 % of the financing was provided provided by the European Union Cohesion Fund through the New Szechenyi Plan.
