HŽ infrastruktura aims to invest EUR 2bn in developing Rijeka railway line until 2020
HŽ infrastruktura aims to invest approximately EUR 2 bn in Rijeka railway line until 2020, stated the Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure, Sinisa Hajdaš Dončić during the meeting of the Adriatic Ionian Euroregion Commission for Transport and Infrastructure. Integrated in the TEN-T Mediterranean Core Network Corridor, Rijeka railway line upgrading, multimodal platforms and interconnections development projects can benefit of substantial EU co- funding. The route should be fully operational for large quantities of cargo as of 2022.
The design and Railways Commission's approval for the continuation of Krzevci - Botovo railway section construction to the Hungarian border and Zagreb - Karlovac railway section (121 km), as part of the Mediterranean corridor running from Rijeka to the Hungarian border, is expected by the end of 2016.
However, in order for organisations to attract EU funding for the projects, first the adoption of the Transport Development Strategy of the Republic of Croatia 2014- 2020 is compulsory, said Hajdaš Dončić.
