“Iran-Turkmenistan-Kazakhstan railway will be operational on December 3 in the presence of the presidents of the three countries,” Aneh Mohammad Kouseh-Gharavi, a board member of Islamic Republic of Iran Railway stated in an interview for the local press.
Iran has so far spent USD 52.3 million on its section of the international railway and the country needs another USD 112 million to complete the project, which is being jointly funded by the three countries.
The length of the railway is 900 km (82 km - Iran, 700 km -Turkmenistan and 120 km - Kazakhstan).
The route will shorten the distance between the Persian Gulf, Central Asia and Europe by 600 kilometers, leading to a considerable reduction of transportation costs.
