KVSZ interested in delivering passenger trains to Moldovan Railways
During a meeting with Moldova's Minister of Economy, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Chisinau stressed the interests of the rolling stock manufacturer Kryukov Railway Car Building Works (KVSZ) to cooperate with Moldovan Railways (CFM), in regarding the supply of passenger cars. Last year, KVSZ Board Chairman and Director Yevhen Khvorost, stated in an interview for the local press that the company was negotiating with CFM for the delivery of EKr1 Tarpan inter-city electric multiple-units.
In July 2012, CFM presented a new refurbished multiple-unit by Remar Pascani (curently Electroputere VFU Pascani). The contract was part of a framework agreement on the modernisation of 14 vehicles to be delivered in two tranches, 5 and then 9 trains. The minimum cost of upgrading one trainset was estimated at 500,000 euros and for the whole project CFM got a loan of EUR 12 million. Currently, due to technical issues the five DMUs are no longer in operation.
