Rolling stock manufacturer Kriukov Car Building Works (KVSZ) plans to manufacture a new electric locomotive (passenger & freight) with asynchronous traction drive for Ukrainian Railways (UZ). Deliveries for the freight units could start in 2017.
UZ has made an order proposal for a 7.4 MW dual-voltage twin-section freight locomotive, to be used for hauling trains from Krivoi Rog and Dnipropetrovsk iron ore basins to the west of the country and to Odesa Port.
The prototype will be manufactured on KVSZ's expenses. The company plans to bid in the future tender to be launched by UZ for the annual acquisition of 35-40 electric locomotives. In the following years, UZ needs to replace 1200 locomotives.
