Leipzig signs tramway framework agreement with Solaris

Solaris and Leipzig City Transport (LVB) have signed a framework agreement for the delivery of up to 41 Tramino.  Five units are firmly ordered. The remaining 36 vehicles may be purchased in up to four tranches, each to consist of at least five and not more than sixteen trams.

“The fact that we won this prestigious tender for the delivery of trams to Leipzig is a sign of a great success for our company. This seems even greater considering we have competed with global railway technology firms to obtain this order. Most importantly not only the price was a deciding factor in the tender, but also innovative technical developments we offered in our Tramino for Leipzig. The good credentials our trams have on the rolling stock market are certainly not without significance, either,” emphasizes Solange Olszewska, CEO of Solaris Bus & Coach S.A.

Deliveries of Solaris trams to Leipzig will start in 2016. The Tramino will be fully adjusted to the city’s unique track gauge of 1458 mm. The vehicles will be 2.3 metres wide and around 45 metres long. The step-free interior will be at least 65% low-floor. Over 200 passengers will be able to travel on the vehicle, including disabled people for whom a specially adapted space was designed.
