Hungarian Government has approved MAV Start technical documentation for the purchase of 21 new EMUs (6 + 15), to operate on Budapest suburban railway lines starting with 2017.
The new trains will be at least 50% low floor vehicles with a seating capacity of 200 and a speed of 160 km/h.
The tender will be launched by MAV-Start in the first quarter of 2015 and the procurement will be co-financed from the EU funds.
In February, MÁV and Austrian-Hungarian regional operator GYSEV awarded Stadler a tender for the delivery of 48 FLIRT electric multiple units (42 + 6).
