New EMU for Croatian Railways enters passenger service

NoviVlakThe first of the 32 EMUs manufactured by KONČAR – Electric Vehicles for HŽ Putnički prijevoz (HŽ PP) started regular operation on Zagreb - Koprivnica and  Zagreb – Sisak – Sunja regional routes.

This first train is a four-part electric low-floor train. Its maximum speed is 160 km/h, it has 210 seats, and a total capacity of 419 passengers.  It is equipped with heating and cooling systems, video surveillance, and free WiFi for passengers. Regular train stops are announced through an informing system, which uses a GPS to track the train's location and emits the messages on displays and speakers.

KONČAR – Electric Vehicles Inc. and HŽ - Croatian Railways Passenger Transport Ltd. signed on 30 January 2014 a EUR 213 million contract for the delivery of 44 passenger trains (32 EMUs , of which16 for urban and suburban traffic and 16 for regional traffic, and 12 DMUs).

The trains will be put into operation in 2015, 2016, 2017. The new train series are based on two prototype electric trains for city-wide and regional transport which are operating since 2011.

17 low-floor trains will be delivered in 2015 (16 electric for regional transport and 1 diesel-electric train).
