PKP Cargo to announce PLN 200 million tender for the purchase of 10 multi-system locomotives
PKP Cargo is expected to announce in the following weeks a PLN 200 million (approximately EUR 48 million) tender for the purchase of 10 multi-system locomotives. The new rolling stock will deployed for cross-border transport in Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Belgium, Hungary, Italy and the Netherlands starting with 2016 or 2017.
In 2008-2009, PKP Cargo’s locomotive fleet included six multi-system locomotives and since 2010, it was enlarged to ten units (nine of them are leased and one is in the property of the Polish rail freight operator). In response to the growing demand for international transport, the operator plans to gradually increase the number of multi-system locomotives. “The expanding of the fleet with additional multi-system locomotives is a consequence of PKP Cargo strategy. This will allow us to strengthen our position in neighboring markets”, stated Adam Purwin, President of PKP Cargo.
Currently, PKP Cargo is analysing various financing solutions for purchasing the new locomotives.
