PKP Intercity signs PLN 1.3bn contract for 20 Dart EMUs with PESA
PKP Intercity signed PLN 1.3 billion contract for the purchase of 20 Dart EMUs from the Polish rolling stock producer Pesa Bydgoszcz. 70% of the total value of the investment will come from the EU Cohesion Fund under the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment and the rest from PKP Intercity own resources.
The new rolling stock will start operating at the end of 2015, on the routes: Jelenia Góra - Wrocław - Łódź - Warszawa - Białystok/Lublin and Białystok/Lublin - Warszawa - Koluszki - Częstochowa - Katowice - Bielsko Biała.
"We invest in comfort. By the end of 2015, 70% of our trains will be new or modernized. Pesa has a significant share in these activities. Besides producing the DART, the company also delivers the biggest modernisation project ", said Marcin Celejewski, CEO of PKP Intercity.
The EMUs have 352 seats, including 60 in first class, six toilets and space for six bicycles. 70% of components and sub-assemblies will be produced in Poland and more than 350 Polish companies will be involved.
In April 2014, Pesa Bydgoszcz was awarded by the Polish National Center for Research and Development a PLN 7.3 million (EUR 1.76 million) grant for developing the DART prototype.
