Russia: Volgograd to purchase 40 tramways

Volgograd plans to purchase 40 tramways until 2017, as part of the fleet renewal program. This year an amount of RUB 560 million has been allocated from the federal budget for the acquisition of trolleybuses and tramways.
Until the end of May, Volgograd’s public transport operator, Municipal Unitary Enterprise MetroElectroTrans is testing a three-section tramway manufactured by Uraltransmash, member of Uralvagonzavod Corporation.
MetroElectroTrans operates 300 one-section tramways, most of them over 35 years old, on 13 routes with a total length of 131.7 km.
