Russian Railways (RZD) signed a memorandum of understanding with Thailand's Banpu Public Company Limited on building a new railway line and marine coal terminal at Banpu's mining concession in East Kalimantan (Borneo Island).

The construction works are expected to start in 2016. The value of the project is estimated at USD 2.5 billion.

In order to carry out the two phase development project in Indonesia, RZD has established the company Kereta Api Borneo, an affiliate company of RZD Stroy JSC.
