Serbian Railways soon to be separated into three companies
Serbian Railways will soon be separated into three companies: railway infrastructure manager, railway freight operator and passenger operator, said Zorana Mihajlovic, Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure.
The entities will initially carry out operations as part of a holding company and after a transition period will operate independently.
Previously, during the first meeting of the working group responsible with implementing the reform of Serbian Railways, Mihajlovic stated that improved results of the railway companies are expected in two years.
As part of the reform process, and as stated in the business plan adopted by the Ministry of Economy and Serbian Railways no additional hiring will be allowed. Mihajlovic also said that Serbian Railways' business plan must comply with the government policy, considering that the state-owned company receives more than RSD 10 billion (EUR 82.6 million) annual subsidies.
