Slovakian Railways to invest EUR 382 million for railway upgrades in 2015

Slovakian Railways (ŽSR) plans to invest EUR 381.68 million for upgrading the infrastructure in 2015, representing EU and state budget funding. The projects will be financed under the Operational Programme Transport 2007 - 2013 (OPT) -  approximately EUR 128 million and EUR 22 million national co-financing, and the new Operational Programme "Integrated infrastructure 2014-2020" (OP II), with EUR 131.38 million and EUR 23.1 national co-financing. 

Additionally, the Slovakian government will allocate in 2015 EUR 8.32 million for the preparation of railway infrastructure projects (studies and pre-project documentation).

Railway infrastructure projects will be allocated approximately EUR 846.3 million from  OP II 2014- 2020 and EUR 668 million will be funded under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF). Among the major projects to be financed are:
- Completion of establishment station Žilina -Teplička and consequent railway infrastructure in the rail hub Žilina
-  Modernization of the railway line Žilina – Košice, track section Poprad Tatry (outside) – Krompachy
- Implementation of  ETMS on corridor IV Kúty - BA - Nové Zámky - Štúrovo / Komárno, including node Bratislava (ETCS L2 + GSM R)
