Think Railways report on Bucharest underground operator
Metrorex SA is the state-owned joint-stock company, under the authority of the Ministry of Transportation, operating the underground transport in Bucharest. The company manages a network of approximately 70 km, structured on four metro lines, 51 metro stations and four depots. Metrorex operates over 60 metro trains/day and carries over 650,000 passengers/day.
The underground transport has a market share of 22% of the total public transport journeys, though it only covers 4% of the total public transport network. In order to increase the coverage of its network and also
capacity, the company focuses on expanding and modernising its network and enlarging its rolling stock fleet.
The investments planned for next years will increase Metreorex network to 100 km of double line and 90 stations and could lead to increasing the number of passengers to 260 million by 2020.
