Turkey: New section of İzmir suburban railway to enter operation in 2015

Izmir's IZBAN Cumaovası -Tepeköy 30 km long railway section is expected to enter operation in May 2015.
Currently, IZBAN rail system is 80 km long and consists of two main axis: Aliağa - Alsancak- Halkapinar (North Line) - 57 km, 21 stations - and Halkapinar-Alsancak-Cumaovası (South Line) - 23 km, 10 stations. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and Turkish Railways (TCDD) have jointly invested over TRY 5.2 bn (EUR 1.8 bn) in developing the IZBAN project, launched in 2010.
According to Izmir Strategic Plan 2015 - 2019, the Suburban System of Izmir, Turkey's largest urban rail transportation system, will be further extended to 200 km, with Tepeköy-Selçuk (26 km) and Aliağa-Bergama (50 km - 3 lines) railway sections.
