Volume of rail freight traffic on Trans-Caspian route to increase to 5.5 m tons/year
The railway companies of Kazakhstan, Turkey, Georgia and Azerbaijan have planned to increase the volume of rail freight traffic on the Trans-Caspian international transport routes to 5.5 million tons of /year. The decision was taken during the meeting of the coordination committee of the Trans-Caspian international transport route, organised in Baku.
The companies discussed setting competitive rates for freight transport and a common tariff policy for container trains on the Trans-Caspian international transport route. In addition, the participants agreed to take measures on organization of the container services on the route China-Kazkahstan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey via the new Zhezkazgan-Beineu railway, Aktau seaport, as well as the Akhalkalaki-Kars railway line currently under construction by creating the appropriate tariff conditions this year.
