Warsaw's second metro line was inaugurated on Sunday, with free travel for passengers. The 6.5 km long central section connects the West to East of Warsaw, from Dworzec Wileński to Rondo Daszyńskiego station. It includes seven metro stations: Rondo Daszyńskiego, Rondo ONZ, Świętokrzyska,, Nowy Świat, Powiśle, Stadion and Dworzec Wileński Station. The construction project total cost was estimated at over PLN 4.5 bn, being considered the largest municipal investment in Poland to be carried out by 2014.

"This investment was a great challenge for all of us. Thank you for your patience", said Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz, Mayor of Warsaw. "From now traveling around the capital by public transportation became easier. With the new metro line, the journey time from West to East of Warsaw has been shorted several times", she added.

The contractor was AGP Metro Polska, representing a civil partnership set up by Italian, Turkish and Polish consortium partners: ASTALDI S.p.A , GÜLERMAK Ağır Sanayi İnşaat ve Taahhüt A.Ş. and Przedsiębiorstwo Budowy Dróg i Mostów Sp. z o.o. from Mińsk Mazowiecki.
