Work begins on modernising Sofia Central Railway Station
The modernisation of the Central Railway Station in Sofia has been launched with an official ceremony Thursday, announced the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications (MTITC). “The station was built more than 40 years ago and ever since, no substantial overhaul has been done,” said Deputy Minister Petar Kirov.
He added that the modernization of the Central Railway Station in Sofia is part of a coherent program of MTITC for improving intermodality and rail infrastructure in Bulgaria.
The contractor for the design and construction is DZZD “Alliance GBS – Sofia Central Railway Station” and the construction supervision will be carried out by DZZD “Alliance TRT”. The entire project is estimated at approximately EUR 31.7 million.
After rehabilitation, Sofia Central Station will be completely renovated architecture that meets the requirements for energy efficiency. It is envisaged that replacement windows – windows and doors, fire safe, installation provided with opportunities to obtain essential services, as well as to stay in the host building warm and comfortable lounges. To all levels of the station complex will provide access to persons with reduced mobility.
