The Slovak state-owned rail passenger operator ZSSK is leasing a number of 40 passenger coaches and five diesel locomotives from Czech Railways (ČD), in the limit of EUR 413,000. According to local press, ČD receives EUR 150/passenger coach and EUR 240/locomotive per day, a total of EUR 7200 /day.
The passenger coaches are from the old series B and Bdt, while the locomotives are type 745 (Cobra).
This operational measure was taken to ensure transport for the increasing number of passengers, following the Slovakian government decision to approve free rail transport for children (under 15), full-time students (under 26) and pensioners (over 62) starting with the 17th of November.
