Inekon Group tests battery-driven tram for Seattle

Inekon Group has completed the development of the battery-driven tramway and is ready to launch serial production. According to the company, performance tests were successfully carry out in traffic on Ostrava Public Transit Company’s routes.

Representative of the city of Seattle (US) , which has purchased seven battery-driven trams worth almost USD 30m, have also been present at the tests in Ostrava. 

In addition to testing acceleration and braking, the performance tests featured off-wire operation powered by a rechargeable battery system(On-Board Energy Storage System, OESS). During this testing, the tramway operated on battery drive for distances up to 16 km and durations as long as 37 minutes. At the request of the US customer the maximum speed when running on battery power was  limited to 32 kilometers per hour.
